Robert W. Bone first sailed on Cunard to Europe in 1957 and then began writing freelance articles from London and Belgium. He enjoyed a long and successful career in publishing, as reporter, author, editor, and photographer on land and at sea.
Bob has lived in a half dozen countries and traveled to nearly 100. In 1986 he began reporting regularly on cruises, and he counts more than 50 trips on the oceans and rivers of the world. He has written four travel guidebooks along with articles in many magazines including Travel & Leisure, National Geographic Traveler, and Travel Weekly. A former columnist, his travel articles have been printed in dozens of daily newspapers in the U.S. and Canada.
After 38 years headquartered in Honolulu, Bob Bone and his wife, Sara, moved to the San Francisco area in 2008, from which they continue to travel in the U.S. and abroad. Bob has received several awards and is an active member of the Society of American Travel Writers and other professional organizations.
Many of Bob Bone’s cruise experiences and other travel adventures are recounted in his widely acclaimed autobiography, “Fire Bone!’ A Maverick Guide to a Life in Journalism.”
