Outer Shores unveils 2016 schedule & new expeditions in coastal B.C.

British Columbia’s leading sailing operator, Outer Shores Expeditions, has unveiled their 2016 schedule complete with new expeditions and experiences aboard the 70-foot classic wooden schooner Passing Cloud.

Guests can now sail in the wake of the legendary Captain James Cook, explore the great Canadian ecological treasure that is the Great Bear Sea, and enjoy epicurean delights in the Salish Sea on three newly curated expeditions. Meanwhile, returning to the Outer Shores Expeditions collection in 2016 are perennial favourites that delve deep into the natural and cultural history of Haida Gwaii, Pacific Rim National Park and Gulf Islands National Park.

In The Wake of Captain James Cook

When Captain James Cook and his crew stepped ashore Nookta Island in March 1778, they triggered an almost unimaginable series of social and ecological events that continue to play out to this day. During this unique expedition guests will explore the west coast of Vancouver Island, visiting many of the same places where Cook and his crew landed more than 300 years ago, and envisage the marine ecosystems and ancient cultures that these early Europeans encountered in their quest for the fabled Northwest Passage

True Canadian ecological treasures, the Great Bear Sea and the Great Bear Rainforest provide guests the opportunity to take-in one of the planet’s most awe-inspiring destinations. Canada’s crown jewel of natural beauty and biodiversity, the region is chock-full of brilliantly coloured tide pool creatures, salmon, herring, seals, sea lions, sea otters, dolphins, family groups of orcas, massive fast-moving fin whales, and bubble-net feeding humpback whales

For the first time ever, Outer Shores is offering unique weekend expeditions providing guests the opportunity to sample the remarkable marine wildlife of the Salish Sea as well as the many culinary delights of the region. These three-day, two-night sailings give Outer Shores’ talented chefs the chance to show off more than ever, serving guests the best food and wine the region has to offer, all set against the mesmerizing backdrop of the Salish Sea’s exceptional Mediterranean climate.
