Crystal’s passengers are loyal and sailings fill up fast

ABOARD THE CRYSTAL SERENITY – Crystal Cruises only operates two luxury ships but it certainly does know how to fill them up.

Crystal passengers are extremely loyal and return time after time. So far on this cruise, I have only met one person who is on their first Crystal cruise.

At the Crystal Society cocktail party last night, several passengers were honored for reaching significant milestones. Dr. and Mrs. Nancy Kaplan were on their 60th and 61st segments while Momma Lee reached her 180th milestone.

Perhaps most amazing was that Dr. Doris Lorz was sailing on her 115th segment – and she turned 100 years old in August! Not only that, Dr. Lorz lives on the ship year around and hardly ever misses a dance class.

Actually, there are four women who live on the ship year around (except for drydock periods). The longest sailing passenger is Pauline Huff who also lives aboard – she has 328 segments to her credit. Also making the ship their home are Judy Hanzel (116 segments) and Tommie Campbell (68 segments).

Now you really, really have to like a ship to decide to live on it!

Jaque Brown, the Crystal Society hostess, reported that of the approximately 800 passengers aboard, 540 were Society members. You automatically become a member of the Society after your first Crystal cruise.

We have chatted with a number of passengers who already have their cruises for 2015 nailed down. All agreed that you have to book very early because sailings frequently sell out. I was quite surprised to hear that our new-found friends from Florida had tried to book the Crystal Serenity World Cruise for 2016 and were placed on the waiting list!

If these solid numbers persist, I would not be surprised to see Crystal add another  ship within the next few years.
