This evening we are invited to experience La Rive, a special dining experience where the chef designs a tasting menu which is paired with the perfect wine to match the flavours of each dish.
There were six courses, as well as an Amuse Bouche to start -which was served with a prosecco cocktail.
The first course was a lemongrass Creme Brulee served with a 2010 Grauburgunder, followed by salmon carpaccio paired with a 2011 William Fevre Chablis.
We enjoyed a crayfish and mango salad with chilled sauvignon Blanc and then came the soup course, a porcini cappuccino with a blue potato chip, paired with a Rheingau Riesling.
After a refreshing palate cleanser of grapefruit sorbet, we moved on to the main course.
The main course was filet of beef a la “Scenic”, with foie gras, served with a 2005 Rocche di Castigione Riserva Barolo. Fabulous.
I was amazed to still have room for the dessert, a warm chocolate cake with balsamico cherries and bourbon vanilla ice cream, accompanied by a 2006 Tokaji from Hungary. There was even space for a cheese plate, served with assorted liqueurs.
