Before I embarked on this cruise on board the MS Scenic Crystal, I was assured that the experience would be five star, and that it would totally inclusive. So I have decided that I will put my wallet away once I am on board and see if it’s possible to do this eight day cruise without having to supplement the initial cost. (Except for shopping in the Christmas markets of course.)
The first indication that this would be a special cruise arrived by courier, with a package that contained a very good backpack with padded shoulder straps, custom laundry bags, and a packet containing a personal itinerary with an excellent guide to all of the towns that the boat will visit.
The cruise begins in Nuremberg and ends in Amsterdam.
We flew to Amsterdam where we had a four hour wait before the flight to Nuremberg. Not a hardship, since Schiphol is my favourite airport. The stores were decorated for Christmas and full of special gift ideas – bags full of fresh tulips and amaryllis, gold wrapped chocolates and tins of cookies. We then took the hour’s flight to Nuremberg where a shuttle picked us up promptly and delivered us to the boat.
It’s a very sleek boat, prosaically plain on the outside, like all river cruise ships, but handsomely elegant inside.
I think this is going to be a good week of cruising!
