Scenic Jade, Day 6: Let’s talk about the cabin amenities on this river cruise

ABOARD THE SCENIC JADE – Today was our second day in Vienna. It is really nice that Scenic spends twos day in this beautiful and exciting city. Yesterday almost everyone did the city tour that was offered and today we were offered three different options. Two busloads headed off to explore Bratislava, the capital of nearby Slovakia, another visited the Schoenbrunn imperial summer palace and the last group visited the famed Spanish Riding School in the city …

Scenic Jade, Day 5: Tours on Scenic Cruises definitely are superior

ABOARD THE SCENIC JADE – Today we are in the lovely city of Vienna, Austria, and pretty much everyone on the ship took a general city tour this morning. I did a similar tour two years ago off another river ship, but what a difference. On that tour we drove around the Ringstrasse (Ring Road) by bus, seeing all of the major sights like the Opera House and Parliament, and then everyone disembarked and walked down a …

Craft Cruises- Pursue your hobby at sea

The holiday time of year seems to bring out the crafty in many of us, with social media sites, especially, on overload with loads of “DIY” crafts to make for others as gifts. Vienna adventure: A trip to the Naschtmarket via the underground

VIENNA, Austria —Yesterday was our second day in Vienna and during the morning we had a fun adventure. This is one of the city’s premier food markets and is easily accessible by the subway. With Bart leading the way, some 60 of us traipsed across the pedestrian bridge near our ship, over the highway, to …

A concert in Vienna: A perfect way to enjoy the city

Last night’s concert at Auersperg Palace was the ultimate Viennese experience. Sure the State Opera is a bit more impressive, but if you don’t love opera, these Viennese favorites are just your cup of coffee – and maybe a piece of chocolate cake as well. Mozart and Strauss were performed the Vienna Residence Orchestra at Auersperg Palace in downtown Vienna. The concert was one of AMADolce’s “optional” tours. Tailored for music-lovers, two busloads of passengers spent the …

It is chilly in Vienna, but the AMADolce river ship is a warm home

I cannot begin to tell you how cold it is. As the BBC weather person said this morning. “Western Europe is fairly moderate. It is quite cold in the East.” AMADolce is docked in Vienna. Vienna is pretty far east of where the forecaster was reporting. It is cold. This hot-house flower finds temperature in the 20s unpleasant. And that’s where the temperature hovered as we toured Budapest yesterday morning. A couple of stops for coffee were …

Marcy Levin begins her trip on the AMA Dolce on the Danube River in Europe

A funny thing happened on my way to Budapest to pick up AMA Dolce, the AMAWaterways river ship on which I, along with a lifelong friend, would spend seven days on the Danube, ending with a three-day stay in Prague before flying home on Dec. 1 After flying for nine hours from Miami to London, changing planes, and flying for another two-and-a-half hours to Budapest we met up with other AMA passengers. After introductions, someone told us …
