ABOARD THE ZUIDERDAM A Caribbean voyage to the Panama Canal aboard the MS Zuiderdam is an opportunity to take a look at one of Holland America Line’s freshest refurbishings and renovations of one of their popular mid-size ships. While the Zuiderdam is a Vista class ship carrying up to 1,900 passengers and a crew of 900, it is similar in many respects to the 2,137 passenger Signature class MS Eurodam which I wrote about previously ( www.AllThingsCruise.com/ …

O, The Oprah Magazine Adventure of Your Life Cruise aboard HAL: Get your fashion-trendy on with Adam Glassman

by Kathy Witt Special to AllThingsCruise I don’t know about you, but I feel my clothes closet constantly mocks me. While the available real estate is stuffed with tops, bottoms, shoes and accessories, there’s never anything to wear; more specifically, there’s never seems to be anything I can pull together to wear for specific occasions, including traveling. So when O, The Oprah Magazine creative director and style guru Adam Glassman took the stage for a “Love That!” …

O, The Oprah Magazine Adventure of Your Life Cruise aboard HAL: ‘Let’s Eat’ and not gain weight

by Kathy Witt Special to AllThingsCruise Whenever two or more women get together over dinner, the subject of weight inevitably rears its ugly head. This was the case during dinner in the Canaletto restaurant on our first evening aboard Eurodam, traveling from Seattle to Juneau. I had just shared a frightful factoid gleaned from that day’s invitation to come to the Greenhouse Spa & Salon for a chance to win one of $500 worth of giveaways: The …

Oprah celebrates a year of adventure on Holland America’s Eurodam

By Kathy Witt Special to AllThingsCruise I consider myself a well-meaning “fashion don’t” so I’m feeling pretty intimidated about boarding  Holland America’s Eurodam on July15 to travel with high profile fashionista Oprah Winfrey, along with O, The Oprah Magazine editor-at-large Gayle King, editor-in-chief Lucy Kaylin and style guru and creative director Adam Glassman. The cruise, roundtrip from Seattle to Juneau, Glacier Bay, Sitka, Ketchikan in Alaska and Victoria, British Columbia, is the first of five such cruises …

Calling All Culinary Artists!

Food, nutrition and cooking are a big deal in my house.  We spend what may amount to an inordinate amount of time pouring over cookbooks, fussing in the garden, and puttering around in the kitchen, searching for just the right combination of ingredients to create everyone’s favorite new dish.  Oftentimes, there’s a bit of a “mad scientist” vibe going on. Sometimes, we’re quite successful; other times… maybe not so much. One thing we can agree on as …

At look at St. Vincent, a rarely visited island in the Caribbean

Looking down on the St. Vincent cruise terminal at Kingstown THIS is where the notorious Capt. Bligh left his lasting mark The main reason Linda and I chose this 35-day Maasdam itinerary is because the ship stops at places most cruise lines don’t. The island of St. Vincent in the Grenadines was a major attraction because I hadn’t seen it for far too long. With scuba diving now on my back burner, a cruise is my best …

There are programs for everyone, all day long, on the Nieuw Amsterdam

Marcia Levin is currently sailing on Holland America’s Nieuw Amsterdam. I didn’t blog yesterday. Instead of sitting here in my cabin at my trusty laptop, I took an early water aerobics class, then sat in on a cooking class where passengers learned to make flowers out of a watermelon, and finally took a five-hour tour to El Yunque rain forest in Puerto Rico which I enjoyed tremendously. Today the ship is in St. Martin and before I …

Educational offerings on board please many cruise passengers

Marcia Levin is currently sailing on HAL’s Nieuw Amsterdam Not every cruise passenger wants to zip through the air, box, bowl or zoom through a tube on top of rushing water. Some of us may enjoy watching our friends and relatives take part in any or all of the above, but me? I prefer things like lectures, seminars and how-to classes while I am on a ship. Over the years I’ve heard lectures on financial matters, politicos …
