SILVERSEA’S SILVER RAY FLOAT OUT

SILVER RAY IS FLOATED OUT – JOINING HER WILDLY POPULAR SISTER SHIP, SILVER NOVA. SILVER RAY IS SILVERSEA’S SIXTH ADDITION TO ITS FLEET IN JUST 3 YEARS.

In Papenburg, Germany, on February 25th. Silversea marked another significant milestone with the float out of Silver Ray at the Meyer Werft shipyard. This signals the ship’s moving into its final stages of construction.  The steel-cutting ceremony just 15 months ago, the ship is now approaching completion.  Silver Ray is scheduled to receive her first passengers in her June debut in the Mediterranean.

Silver Nova, Open Deck Overview

SILVER RAY IS AN EXACT DUPLICATE OF HER SISTER SHIP, SILVER NOVA.

All Things Cruise brought our readers aboard Silver Nova not once but in a series of 3 articles. Silver Nova is just completing its maiden season ending an around South America adventure that has been an unqualified success. And the light-filled ship itself has fast become a Silversea past-passenger favorite.  So RCCL, parent of Silversea Cruises determined not to make a single change to its sister ship.  You can read all our articles about Silver Nova and know that they apply to Silver Ray.

NOW BACK TO SILVER RAY’S FLOAT OUT…

The process of floating Silver Ray out is a fascinating one.  Folllowing a meticulous cleaning of Silver Ray’s hull by Meyer Werft’s skilled craftspeople, approximately 100,000 cubic meters of water inundated the dock over four hours, allowing two tugboats to maneuver the 728-guest ship from the expansive construction hall into the adjacent harbor basin for further work during the “docking out’ phase. There the team installed both the ship’s funnel and radar mast. In keeping with maritime traditions, Captain Alessandro Zanello, the Master of Silver Ray, affixed a newly minted commemorative coin to a wall on the pool deck as a symbol of good fortune.

Noting the popularity of and positive passenger feedback for Silver Nova, Barbara Muckerman, President of Silversea Cruises, expressed excitement for Silver Ray’s launch. She emphasized how Silver Ray’s arrival will fortify Royal Caribbean Group’s dedication to providing the most exceptional vacation experience not just aboard the Silversea fleet but across all of RCCL’s global brands.

A COMMITMENT TO MAINTAIN ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

Both Silver Nova and Silver Ray boast energy efficient standards 40% higher than required international norms.  Their energy efficiency carries throughout the ship. An example: The ship’s elevators collect energy as they descend, which is used to propel them when they ascend. All Silversea’s luxury amenities will be aboard Silver Ray. From new suite options, the Otium Wellness Experience, enhancements to the S.A.L.T. (Sea And Land Taste) culinary program including the new Chef’s Table high in the ship and overlooking the sea. And every passenger will be astonished how light-filled Silver Ray is thanks to approximately 4000 square meters of exterior glass that brings outdoors in in spectacular fashion.

SILVER RAY WILL SOON EMBARK ON A UNIQUE JOURNEY

Covering approximately 20 miles or 32 kilometers, Silver Ray will sail down the Ems River before it reaches the North Sea. There the ship will undergo her sea trials. And in June, Silver Ray is scheduled to enter service for her inaugural Mediterranean season. In December, she will cross the Atlantic for her North American debut.
