PONANT Launches a New Catamaran, Spirit of Ponant, to Set Sail this Summer

Courtesy PONANT: April 9, 2024 | PONANT announces the latest addition to its fleet: the 24-meter Spirit of Ponant, whose intimate size and seafaring spirit nod to the brand’s roots in small-ship sailing. Built in France, the six-stateroom catamaran will set sail in Corsica in July 2024 before heading to the Seychelles for winter 2024. The intimate vessel will be available as a private charter for week-long voyages as well as on a per-cabin basis on select itineraries — a rarity for sailing yachts of this scale. Rates start at $8,250 (€7,500) per person based on double occupancy for a single cabin booking in Corsica.

The Spirit of Ponant will sleep up to 12 guests and four crew and will offer all the refinements and personalized service that serve as hallmarks of the brand, including a personal chef, spacious staterooms, and nautical activities such as paddleboarding, wakeboarding, and snorkeling.

First setting sail in Corsica, sailing roundtrip from Bonifacio, the seven-night long voyages are completely customizable based on the traveler’s interests and each journey is co-created with the Captain’s recommendations. The vessel will then venture to the Seychelles for the winter 2024 season, offering circumnavigations of Mahé, the largest island in the Seychelles archipelago.

The Spirit of Ponant is steeped in the company’s experience of sailing the high seas, of being as close to the elements as possible. This spirit is a backbone of the brand’s DNA: founded in 1988 by officers of the French Merchant Navy, PONANT is rooted in providing some of the most innovative itineraries globally, thanks to the ships’ moderate size, design, and groundbreaking technology. The vessel joins PONANT’s fleet of 13 small-size ships, including the company’s first ship, a three-masted sailing yacht Le Ponant featuring just 16 staterooms, and the world’s only luxury icebreaker Le Commandant Charcot.

“The Spirit of Ponant is a new expression of our pioneering spirit, as the travel format is a first in the luxury cruise sector,” explains Hervé Gastinel, CEO of PONANT. “Our guests will experience what it is really like to be a sailor, including interacting with the captain to create a voyage that meets their desires and expectations. They will benefit from hidden away anchorages in magical places, while enjoying the high-end services for which PONANT is renowned.”

“The concept and design of this Lagoon Seventy 7 yacht has been praised by everyone in the industry, won over by the spacious interior and exterior areas,” explains Guillaume Le Brec, the experienced skipper in charge of this project at PONANT. “Guests will really appreciate the high-end finishings as much as her exceptional sailing qualities.”
