New American Countess Offers Golfers Chance to Cruise & Play Golf

How about taking a cruise on the new American Countess riverboat and play golf? Well, actually golfers won’t be playing aboard the Countess.

Golfers will have the luxury of cruising and stopping at four of the most prestigious courses along the Lower Mississippi River. Sailing May 8-16 from Memphis to New Orleans, guests can tee off at Colonial Country Club in Memphis; The Bluffs in St. Francisville, Louisiana;  Copper Mill Golf Club in Zachary, Louisiana; and Black Bear Golf Club in Delhi, Louisiana.

“With so many legendary courses along the Lower Mississippi River, our American Golf Classic itinerary is the perfect way for golfers to explore the region while being able to enjoy the comforts of our newest paddlewheeler, the American Countess,” John Waggoner, founder and CEO of American Queen Steamboat Company, said in a news release.

To make the cruise even more fun, the voyage includes a special appearance by five-time PGA Tour winner and current NBC on-course reporter Jim Gallagher, Jr. The renowned golfer will play a round with guests at The Bluffs and take part in a Q&A session.

“With the Grand Lobby Bar of the American Countess designated as our unofficial 19th hole for the sailing, guests will be able to recap their rounds among old and new friends throughout the week,” Waggoner said.

With a reduced capacity of 166 guests, the American Countess was christened on March 21, 2021, and joined the American Queen and American Duchess on the Tennessee, Ohio, Cumberland and Mississippi rivers.

The riverboat’s sleek contemporary design offers plenty of open space for guests, especially the portside bar which features an 80-foot panoramic view. With four decks, including a Sun Deck, and 123 lovely staterooms in four categories, the American Duchess is a home away from home on six- to 15-day itineraries.

The American River Golf Cruise offers cruise-only fares as well as the Rounds on the River add-on package which includes one round of golf on the four courses, lunches, special giveways, all equipment transportation and club cleaning prior to play.

The Memphis to New Orleans itinerary will feature plenty of golf talk paired with southern hospitality as the American Countess paddlewheel churns down the river. Each section of the Lower Mississippi River introduces guests to its own distinct personality, providing golfers a new way to explore their favorite sport and cruise-lovers a chance to relax and enjoy all the pleasures of the new American Countess.
