Today’s the day when the 1970s take over a 21st century vessel as “Love Boat” cast members Captain Stubing, Chief Purser Gopher, Bartender Isaac, Doc, Cruise Director Julie and the Captain’s daughter Vicki name this beautiful new ship, Regal Princess, here in Port Everglades on a brilliant, sunny, typical Florida day.
I sailed on the old Regal Princess back in the late 1990s, so there’s a lot of deja vu going around. The “Love Boat” crew, who so deeply impacted the cruise industry, will be mixing with passengers later today before the actual naming ceremony. They are the ship’s godparents. Their show brought the world of cruising into homes where a sea-going vacation was akin to flying to Mars.
So there’s lots of excitement on board.
The ship sprawls over 19 decks, includes a Wedding Chapel, (more about that later,) youth and teen centers, bulleye’s shooting center, and lounges, dining rooms and buffets and entertainment on a day-long basis. She’s beautiful, the cabins are lovely and staff warm and friendly.
More later when the naming has taken place
