AMSTERDAM, Netherlands – We arrived yesterday around noon in Amsterdam and took a taxi to the Hotel Luxer, located right in the city center, near all landmarks. I booked this online with recommendations from Trip Advisor and we have found it to be tiny but very satisfactory.
It is right on the edge of the Red Light District, which has become, we have discovered, an artistic district during the day… albeit one with many sex shops. As we were tired from our overnight flight, we had a very early dinner and went to bed early so missed the night scene.
The Hotel Luxer is clean, modern, safe and secure. Our room (#105) is surprisingly spacious, by European standards. There are twin beds, a table with two stools, a desk and chair and a closet. There was even room to open two suitcases! Plus, a nice-sized bathroom with walk-in shower. The cost was 149€ plus 7.45€ tax and 8€ each for a very nice breakfast.
The staff is extremely helpful and the tiny front desk (at the end of the bar) faces the front door so they see everyone who comes and goes. This area of the city is great for walking and filled with restaurants. It is only a few blocks from the Central Railway Station so it is easy to get anywhere in the city. The famous canal cruises depart from the same area.
Today we will board the Scenic Opal river ship. We know it is docked close by but we are not sure where as there are three different docking areas for river ships, all near Central Station. As we do not want to walk all over the place dragging our suitcases, so we have decided to join the general Scenic passenger transfer from the close-by Doubletree Hotel at 3 p.m.
The plan is to take our bags over to the Doubletree this morning, about a ten-minute walk, and check them there. Then we will head out to explore the city and have lunch then we will return to the Doubletree about 2:30 p.m.
The reason we did not stay at the Doubletree is that is cost about twice as much as the Hotel Luxer…we stayed at the Doubletree two years ago and it was lovely, but not worth the extra bucks this time.
The Hotel Luxer is located at Warmoesstraat 11, 1012 HT Amsterdam. Phone +31 (0)20 3303205. www.hotelluxer.nl Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
