Family Vacation: Not a cruise, but still on the water!

A quick winter break getaway led us on an awesome 3-day adventure in Georgia. Our destination: the Ritz-Carlton Reynolds on Lake Oconee.

The drive into Lake Oconee was everything we had hoped for — tall pines, rolling hills and small glimpses of world=class golf and beautiful homes. From the moment they opened the car door through our seamless check-in process, the entire staff definitely knew the meaning of southern hospitality.

The rustic charm of the lobby’s wood finishes and a large wood-burning fireplace bring a certain charm. Our room was beautifully furnished and had the most perfect lake view.

We explored the property right away and every staff member we encountered were all so welcoming. We meandered our way into what the resorts calls the backyard, and it truly felt just like that!

Pathways lead you around the yard, adorable wood swings hanging from the tall pines are like little secrets to find as you walk the property. Two pools, one with an infinity edge that seems to fall right into the lake and the other a large family pool with zero entry and kids water features. Also for kids is the Ritz kids club with a playground, half court basketball, putting green, bags, foosball, ping pong tables and a small arcade.

There are quite a few restaurants on property, Gaby’s by the lake is the most casual option and sits closest to lake next to the infinity pool. There are 2 higher end options on property The Linger Longer steakhouse and Amore del Lago. We dined at both and had exceptional service and delicious food. Every night at 730pm the property has a huge bonfire in the backyard with s’mores for all guests, definitely a highlight at night for the kids!

The RC recreational team also helped us with borrowing bikes to go on a morning ride on the numerous RC trails. A little hilly for the kids, but such a fun thing to do to see more of the property and surrounding area.

Unfortunately this was a quick trip and we did not have enough time to squeeze in golf, but we will most definitely return with clubs next time.

We were all sad to see this trip end and are already talking about how we can’t wait to return in warmer weather to really check out the lake and all the water activities. So if you’re looking for a change of scenery in between cruises, definitely look into the Ritz Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee. (Lake Oconee is located halfway between Atlanta and Augusta.)
