A close friend of mine recently traveled with her family on Disney Cruise Line; a quick 5-day jaunt from San Diego down into Mexico and back, and she said it was, hands-down, the best family vacation they’ve ever had.

Given that Disney is perhaps the most recognized name in family entertainment in the world, it’s oftentimes the number one choice for families researching a cruise vacation.  And while you can find a wealth of information on the AllThingsCruise website alone, I thought I would make things easier by compiling the information for you here.

About Disney Cruise Line:

When you spend a day at sea on a Disney ship, you enjoy fun-filled activities for every member of the family, fantastic Disney-style entertainment, character meet-and-greets, amazing themed restaurants, swimming, dancing, spa and fitness programs, onboard shopping and-of course-recreations and relaxation under the sun!

Disney offers a family cruise experience for everyone in the family.  The magic begins the moment you step onboard.  Plus you’ll find pampering for adults and magic all day of the children.  Don’t worry about a thing!  Your cruise package includes: stateroom, meals and snacks, room service, onboard activities for all ages, and entertainment.  Traveling via ships takes the hassle out of travel

Best for:

Adults and families who love the magic of Disney and want a large ship with a variety of onboard activities devoted to families and making memories.  Or those adults who are still children at heart and wish to amuse themselves with the magic of Disney.  There are ares of the ships devoted to those adults.

There are adult-only pools, an adult area on the private island Castaway Cay, a gorgeous spa and nightclubs and adult-only restaurants.  There are nighttime entertainment district venues aboard each ship. On the Disney Fantasy the adult only nighttime entertainment district is called “the District”. The Disney Magic has “Europa,” as its nighttime entertainment area, the Disney Magic has  “After Hours” and on the Disney Wonder it is “Route 66.”  Perfect for family reunions and multigenerational families who want something for everyone.

A private island experience:

Disney’s Castaway Cay provides plenty of magical fun for people of all ages, and caters to guest in true Disney style, with all the conveniences.  A major bonus of Castaway Cay is that the island features cruise ship-docking capabilities (versus shuttle boats between the ship and island), which allows guest to easily travel back and forth to their ship.  Attractions include the Castaway Family Beach, Serenity Bay for adults, a teens-only activity area called The Hide Out and supervised programs for children at Scuttle’s Cove.  There are also numerous water sports, biking, snorkeling, para-sailing, fishing and various water tour excursions.  Recent upgrades (in 2010) include an expansion of the family beach area, the addition of deluxe private cabanas and a fantastic new water slide.
