Cruising with a heart: Princess Cruises Donates $832,000 to the American Heart Association

American Heart Princess 2Another charitable act:  This past week, Princess Cruises presented a check to the American Heart Association (AHA) for $832,000.  (You may remember that I posted about this “Cruising for a Cause” fundraising cruise in  February.)

These substantial funds were by a donation taken from each guest’s cruise fare, which the line then matched at 100 percent.

Here’s what the line has to say about the donation:

“ ‘We are pleased to have presented such an enlightening cruise experience, as well as raise money to educate and provide resources to combat heart disease which is the leading cause of death in men and women in the United States,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises. “Because we care about the health and well-being of our employees and guests, supporting the American Heart Association was a great partnership’

This heart-themed cruise included activities and education that focused on heart-healthy living, including training in the American Heart Association’s Hands-Only™ CPR; seminars on how to better manage stress, diet and exercise; a survivor’s reception for those who had overcome heart disease; complimentary blood pressure screenings; and a fundraising walk on deck, patterned after AHA’s successful HeartWalks.”

Kudos to the line on their ongoing efforts to support worthwhile causes; the line also raised $600,000 for veteran’s causes in November 2013 aboard the Caribbean Princess, and donations were made to Operation Homefront and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
