Mazatlan is a colonial city with many old buildings revealing the European influence on Mazatlan. The beautiful opera house (Angela Peralta Theater) and cathederal were both built in the 1800s.

Mazatlan is the shrimp capital of the entire west coast of North America.

Best thing to do. Hire a pulmonia for an hour or so tour of the city. Many are outside the terminal and near the cathedral. The cost is about $30-35 total for up to 4 people and they will show you places the cruise ship tours can not get to with great views. After the tour you will know where you will want to return in the city.

Be sure the driver speaks good English and verify price before getting in. Things are negotiable. If you want beaches just go to the Golden Zone which is where all the tourist hotels are and they have fine beaches with oceanside dining.

Take a taxi to the gold coast and many of the hotels along the beach will treat you like a king! Just buy a bucket a beers and they will let you use their pool, cabanas or anything you need. Prompt service makes for a very nice day in Mazatlan.
