Crossing the Atlantic on Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 ~Arrival at New York Harbor

Sunday, March 27th – The day we return home

Today is the day we disembark. How will it be different?

On Saturday we got our luggage tags along with instructions to be ready to disembark at 8:10 AM on Sunday. The ship docks at 6:30. Breakfast in the Kings Court buffet starts at 6:00. In the Britannia dining room it’s 6:30.

Sometime after 6:00 AM we received a notice slipped under our stateroom door. On Carnival Corp PLC letterhead the document said we had negative results on our Covid tests. I think we should have it framed.

We met up with our friend for breakfast at 7:00. Then the three of us waited in our cabin until 8:00 and headed towards deck 3, where the gangway is located. As we got in the elevator, we heard our group called.

We needed to have our ship ID cards scanned twice as we disembarked. The computer voice wished us goodbye.

We headed to the baggage area and found out bags. It was easy. We found a porter and he loaded everything onto a cart. Somehow this got us on a shorter line for US Customs. Everyone was very friendly. Customs went smoothly for the three of us.

The porter brought the luggage to the passenger pickup area. He explained he would wait with it until I brought the car around. I thought this was great because I had already tipped him.

It was easy to get the car, bring it around and load it up. The porter helped. We were on the road very quickly.

    • Anan, thank you for sharing your thoughts. I enjoy approaching writing about travel from the viewpoint of what we are doing every day. The things we do can be done by anyone who takes the same trip.
