We have crossed the Atlantic Ocean on the Queen Mary 2 and spent two days in Amsterdam and a day at Floriade, the world horticultural exhibition located about two hours outside of that city in Venlo. (www.floriade.com)
I will be writing about those is upcoming posts.
However, tomorrow we fly from Amsterdam to Vienna, Austria, where we board the River Duchess for the beginning of a two-week river trip. It begins with a few days in Vienna, then ten days cruising, then finishes with three days in Istanbul. This itinerary is called “The Imperial Capitals of Europe” and travels through Eastern Europe, visiting many places we have never been. It is offered by a premier river cruise line, Uniworld Boutique Cruises.
Here is the itinerary:
Day 1-3: Vienna
Day 4: Bratislava, Slovakia
Day 5: Szentendre Island, Budapest
Day 6: Budapest, Hungary
Day 7: Mohács (Pécs), Hungary
Day 8: Vukovar (Osijek), Croatia
Day 9: Belgrade, Serbia
Day 10: Cruising the Iron Gates
Cruise the majestic Iron Gates, an 83-mile-long stretch of scenic gorges carved out of the Carpathian and Balkan mountains over the millennia by the Danube River.
Day 11: Svistov (Veliko Tarnovo and Arbanassi countryside), Rousse, Bulgaria
Day 12: Giurgiu (disembark), transfer to Bucharest, Romania, fly to Istanbul
