Guests who have a spa treatment on any Celebrity Cruises ship Thanksgiving week, Nov. 19-25, will automatically participate in the Earth Day Network’s Canopy Project, an initiative that has planted more than a million trees in 16 countries since 2010.
This initiative was spearheaded by The Onboard Spa by Steiner, the spa operator of Celebrity Cruises’ AquaSpa by Elemis and the Earth Day Network, as a way to acknowledge the link between human well-being and a healthy, vibrant planet.
“Elemis, our featured spa-therapy skincare line, uses medicinal grade marine and plant extracts. We rely on a healthy Earth for the most effective treatments and skincare,” said Glenn Fusfield, president of The Onboard Spa by Steiner. “It is a small gesture in the grand scheme of things, but we hope that it does help shine the spotlight on how important trees are for a healthy eco-system and ultimately the well-being of all of us.”
Earth Day Network’s Canopy Project plants millions of trees in areas of the world most in need of reforestation. In many cases reforestation takes places in regions that have been damaged by forest fire, flood or stripped bare of trees by logging. The Canopy Project hand-selects tree planting locations that do not just heal the planet, but also help strengthen communities, restoring lands and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of people of all backgrounds, faiths and nationalities throughout the world.
“The health and well-being of each individual is truly dependent on a healthy planet,” said Earth Day Network president Kathleen Rogers. “As Thanksgiving approaches, we’re grateful for the support of Steiner and for all those joining us in our global reforestation effort.”
Celebrity Cruises is committed to making a positive difference; efforts toward the environment, guests and communities are all tenets of its “Celebrity Cruises Cares” program. “We are committed to seeking ways to add value to our guests’ experience through meaningful partnerships that improve the world. Just as the Onboard Spa by Steiner sees the connection between well-being and a healthy planet, Celebrity sees the connection between our guests’ calming, rejuvenating AquaSpa experience and a pristine, thriving environment. You really cannot separate the two. So, we are very happy to be the host for the Thank Earth promotion,” says Susan Bonner, Vice President, Onboard Revenue, Celebrity Cruises.
From Nov. 19-25, every Celebrity Cruises guest who books any 50-minute face or body treatment will be responsible for the planting of one tree through the Canopy Project. The Onboard Spa by Steiner has guaranteed to plant up to 10,000 trees ($10,000). Limited to one tree per guest.
