Here’s a neat idea: Cunard Line, which is well known as a line whose sailing philosophy hearkens back to the ocean liners of old, has paired with The Film Society of Lincoln Center.
If you’re in New York this summer, be sure to get in on the film series the two organizations have put together. Cinematic Passages: Ocean Liners on Screen will be showing at the Walter Reade Theater (165 West 65th Street) from August 26th through the 30th.
Tickets go on sale this Tuesday, August 9th, and are available both at the theater’s box office and online at http://www.filmlinc.com/films/series/cinematic-passages-ocean-liners-on-screen.
Cunard seems perfectly suited to this pairing, as their hallmarks are glamour and sophistication, reflecting the Golden Age of ocean travel. The series will feature showings of Gentlemen Prefer Blonds, The Lady Eve, Shall We Dance, Royal Wedding, and Titanic.
Another highlight of the series will be the presentation of Ocean Liners in Fact, Fiction and On Screen: An Illustrated Lecture by Bill Miller on Friday, 26 August at 7:00 p.m. Miller is known as “Mr. Ocean Liner.” He has written more than 75 books and 1,000 articles, lectured on more than 50 liners and sailed nearly 350 voyages to date.
