Institute For Shipboard Education’s Global Voyages Added to AllThingsCruise.com

DETROIT- (May 18, 2010) – Cruise information website AllThingsCruise.com today proudly announced that it has added The Institute for Shipboard Education to its website’s offerings.  The Institute for Shipboard Education is a private, nonprofit, educational corporation that provides valuable service learning projects helping children in need.

The Institute for Shipboard Education’s mission is to help develop leaders who have the knowledge and perspective necessary to promote greater understanding of all peoples and all cultures, and they afford travelers the opportunity to impact the world in a positive way.  The service learning projects allow voyagers to meet and interact with local children in the cities and villages the ship visits.  Cruisers can work with children in these local communities to read or tell stories, demonstrate hobbies or play games, teach or help with meal preparation, instruct how to cultivate a garden or help with laundry or general cleaning.

Nobel Laureates Mother Teresa and Archbishop Desmond Tutu have honored previous ISE activities with their presence and involvement.  The next enrichment voyage is scheduled for December 15, 2010 through January 4, 2011.  This 20-Day cruise will visit destinations in Central America & the Panama Canal.

The Institute also administers the Semester at Sea (SAS) global study abroad program, an enrichment voyage that  offers rigorous coursework coupled with field assignments, service learning in 8-12 international destinations, and the skills necessary to compete in today’s rapidly globalizing world. Credit earned is fully transferable by the University of Virginia.

Students aboard Semester at Sea’s ship, the MV Explorer, sail with leading academics, scientists, artists, and authors who share their insight and expertise along the way.
