If you’ve been following along here, you’ve probably noticed that I cannot resist luxury in all its forms. I love those “essentials” that the cruise lines provide. I am, therefore, delighted to hear reports that the river cruise lines are upgrading their ships with things like high-thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, special mattresses, and down pillows. In addition, plush towels and name-brand bath products (like L’Occitane) are fast becoming the norm…
As an example, river cruise line Tauck World Discovery river division, Tauck River Cruising, reports that it has made numerous amenity upgrades on its newest ship, Treasures, which will launch in August 2011. The bright colors used in the new decor on this ship assures a light and airy ambience. Also in store: the bedding in cabins will feature two single beds that can be combined to form a fully integrated, king-size bed, and all beds boast 400 thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets and Hungarian down pillows.
Tauck World Discovery is not the only line to roll out such improvements. For 2011, a number of the river cruise lines have announced upgrades: Avalon Waterways’ is introducing the “Comfort Collection by Avalon”; providing choices in bed configurations, pillows, orthopedic mattresses, and super-combed Egyptian cotton linens. And Uniworld, in turn, is doing a complete interior design overhaul of its entire fleet. Can’t wait to see what they have in store.
It’s the little things in life, you know.
