On a beautiful, warm evening in Koblenz, Avalon Waterways christened its fifth Suite Ship, the Avalon Expression. Acting as the ship’s godmother, Patricia Schultz, author of international bestselling books 1,000 Places to See Before You Die®, led the christening ceremony.
“May the sun warm your decks and the hearts of those who call you home. May you sail through waters calm and serene, and explore Europe’s beautiful corners and historic sites,” said Ms. Schultz during her christening speech. May you echo with the love and laughter of guests, and new friendships, and may everyone feel like family by the time you return them home, safe and sound. They will talk of you, your Captain and crew for years to come – and of the days filled with adventure and happiness that you promised and delivered. I name this ship Expression. May God bless and protect you and all who sail with you forever more.”
After reciting her blessing, Ms. Schultz cut a rope tethered to Veuve Clicquot Champagne, causing the bottle to break against the newly named ship’s bow as Captain André Harscher and Managing Director of Avalon Waterways Patrick Clark looked on with pride and her crew of 44 and 100 invited guests cheered.
Of her godmother duties, Ms. Schultz said, “It is an honor, without doubt, but also a thrill and a delight to have this chance to christen the Avalon Expression. I know that countless adventurers will fill every departure, excited by the promise of exploring Europe’s history-lined rivers. Sailing through its most special corners on such a beautiful vessel is something that makes me exceptionally proud!”
“Ms. Schultz has inspired thousands of people driven by wanderlust to travel the world,” said Patrick Clark. “She is the perfect godmother for the Expression – a suite ship that will soon deliver travelers to the heart of Europe, encouraging them to explore and experience each destination while enjoying panoramic views day and night, along the way.”
After the christening ceremony, the 443-foot, 166-passenger Avalon Expression will welcome travelers aboard for such popular itineraries as The Legendary Danube, The Blue Danube Discovery and Magnificent Europe. These vacations are nearly sold-out for the 2013 cruise season.
