In an effort to improve the efficiency and overall features of their 2600 passenger ship, the Grand Princess, Princess Cruises recently implemented their most extensive drydock ever- a total of 24 days.
The Grand Princess returned to service last week, setting sail from Fort Lauderdale with extensive changes, including the removal of the ship’s iconic Skywalkers Nightclub from its top deck. The purpose of this change, according to Princess, was to improve the ship’s fuel efficiency by reducing its overall weight. As a replacement, Princess built a new nightclub ship’s top deck called One5; the club open May 21.
In addition to the removal of Skywalkers, the ship was updated with features from the line’s newest ships; a piazza-style atrium and Crown Grill steakhouse. The line also added some new elements: the Leaves tea lounge and library, and Alfredo’s pizzeria. The ship also has seven new suites, a remodeled casino, boutiques and an art gallery.
