Usually get a exterior cabin. Went on Alaska Cruise--got a balcony. Talk about spectacular. You have your exclusive spot on the ship to photograph the glaciers. All the while, you can be eating room service breakfast and coffee. If you go to Alaska, save up for the balcony. What you will not spend on shore excursions will cover the cost. Best to be up and about so you'll notice if everyone starts heading for the starboard side.
