Good point. Always good to upgrade to a balcony, particularly in places of such beauty.

Been on many cruises. Usually get a exterior cabin. Went on Alaska Cruise--got a balcony. Talk about spectacular. You have your exclusive spot on the ship to photograph the glaciers. All the while, you can be eating room service breakfast and coffee. If you go to Alaska, save up for the balcony. What you will not spend on shore excursions will cover the cost.

Balconies are great but the photo also illustrates a downside of balconies. if your cabin is on the port side, you'll miss the whole show and won't even know it was happening until people tell you about it at dinner!

Best to be up and about so you'll notice if everyone starts heading for the starboard side.
