In August it was announced that Emerald Waterways would become Europe’s newest deluxe river cruise company, introducing travelers to the next generation of river cruising. Today the company is pleased to share video footage of construction on its two new “Star-Ships”  – the Emerald Sky and Emerald Star. The 60-second clip of the Emerald Sky at various stages of development, including its water launch a few weeks ago, is available at Emerald Waterways Update. The company is offering up to $500 (US & CAD) per person savings in airfare costs when Emerald Waterways books the flight and the cruise is booked by November 30, 2013.

The next step in the construction phase is fitting the ships’ deluxe interiors, including a revolutionary 24-square-meter swimming pool that converts into a cinema; the luxury Owner’s One Bedroom Suites; and The Terrace, where guests can enjoy alfresco dining at its best. In the video, images of these features are artists’ renderings – but the company is on track to debut its ships on the Rhine, Maine, Danube and Moselle rivers in April 2014.

Emerald Waterways is the first new European river cruise company to set sail in more than six years, and it has already received a warm reception. Demand for 2014 bookings has been so high, in fact, that the company is well on its way to selling out its cruises. Emerald Waterways is aiming at both experienced travelers and the younger demographic, which is looking for strong value and great pricing. Eight- to 15-day itineraries are offered at fares starting at just $2,255 per person, double.

What sets Emerald Waterways apart from other major lines on the rivers are its ship amenities and fare inclusions. Basic fares include all transfers to and from the ships; all onboard (and most on-shore) meals; a choice of two dining venues; unlimited tea and coffee; wine, beer and soft drinks with lunch and dinner; bottled water in cabins; Wi-Fi onboard the ship; and at least one included shore excursion almost every cruise day.
