We had awonderful day in Funchal which is a 10 minute walk from the ship. Very interesting architecture, pretty squares, colorful flower market and restful gardens above port.

We took a trip up to the highest point and while there we began to hear "Unchained Melody" through the mist that had suddenly come down around us, very eerie. On returning to the car park we found that a group of South American pan pipers were entertaining the visitors. It was one of those moments that made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

As it had been raining we were advised not to try the basket run as they were liable to lose control. On return to the ship we discovered that was what had happened to two passengers, one suffered a broken arm, the other a broken leg and severe grazes, so beware. Would certainly like to return for a longer stay.
