We have sailed Royal about four times in the past. This cruise was good but the food was not special. It was just ok, which surprised me. Maybe because this ship only had five more weeks of service and was sold. Most of the staff was friendly and pleasant and we didn't have any problems. The room (superior ocean-view) was a good size and well taken care of. The room steward was very friendly as was the waiter and assistant waiter in the dining room (but we only ate there one night). There wasn't much on the menu the other nights that enticed us to go back. Entertainment was good.

Overall, really enjoyed the cruise. Plenty of activities. Staff was great without exception. Cabins are tiny but manageable after the initial shock. (It would be nice to at least have a few drawers to put things away though. Had to live out of a suitcase stashed under the bed.)Nice bars and public rooms. My daughter enjoyed the kids' program very much (until she got seasick one night, but the staff took the trouble to come and find me).Nightly entertainment was decent. So-so comic, rather good comic/juggler. The main drawback was the disappointing food. Pancakes and eggs at breakfast, even when ordered in main dining room, were ghastly. Lunch was bad until I discovered Indian offerings in Windjammer and terrific salad bar in dining room. Can't they find a good dessert chef? My 9-year-old makes better brownies from a mix. Dinner appetizers and entrees were quite good though -- the duck especially.

We have been on the larger RCI boats -- this was a very nice surprise to go on the smaller boat. It was so easy to get around, no big lines, you didn't wait forever for anything. We didn't have young children but had older kids and they enjoyed the food and shows. We liked the shops and ports. I would recommend this boat and great staff to all.

Went on this short cruise with my son, age 9. He tried the kids' club for about 15 minutes but after witnessing a staff member yell over the megaphone at a couple of boys for playing on the Wii and PlayStations (that they weren't allowed to use while they were supposed to do art work,) he decided it wasn't a fun place to be. It honestly looked more like a day care than a fun club for the kids. Staff did not appear to care much about the kids and didn't seem to interact with them unless they needed to because the schedule dictated art time. The dining room did a nice job of working around my multiple food allergies. The food was tasty. They couldn't quite figure out a dessert for me but gave me fruit, so it was okay. The ship was supposed to have a day at the RCL's private island. They have to use tenders to get passengers to shore and the waves were too high to safely do that so our day on the beach was cancelled. Disappointing but understandable. What was not understandable is that the activities they came up with for our "fun day at sea" were anything but fun. Not enough things to do, nothing for families at all (other than the day care which parents are not allowed in to). And the day care was actually closed for at least four hours during our "fun" day at sea. There is a neat looking climbing wall on deck but it seemed to be closed during our "fun" day at sea. Perhaps it was due to wind? But there were no signs up to explain and it didn't seem that windy. Not sure why they would close it when there wasn't much else to do on the ship. Really poor planning for something that apparently happens pretty regularly (cancelling the private island stop). The ship itself is old but has been fairly well maintained. I didn't notice anything dirty or in disrepair. Did notice a few funky smells here and there but just in the odd hallway or stairwell, not in our rooms or in the dining area thankfully.Cabins are definitely on the small side. They work but don't plan to spend much time there unless you're paying for the bigger suites. Had an issue where the toilet wouldn't flush. They fixed it within a few hours. Overall this cruise wasn't good for us, but mainly because it's just not family friendly. If your kids like day care, they will like the kids club; otherwise steer clear of this ship (and maybe all RCL ships??). Head to Disney where they know kids. Worth the extra money for sure.Prepare yourself for the real possibility that your day at the private island will be cancelled if your itinerary includes this.
