About Norwegian Cruise Line:

Norwegian is generally known as mainstream or mass-market cruise line, catering to many younger and first-time cruisers as well as families with kids, though newer ships with high-end suites and exclusive, private areas are changing this image. NCL works hard to promote a relaxed atmosphere at sea, with no fixed times or seating arrangements for lunch or dinner (as opposed to other lines where passengers are assigned to specific tables). Norwegian also never requires formal attire from passengers.

Norwegian has been working aggressively to remake its service over the past decade. Four new ships in the Jewel class entered service between 2005-2008, greatly modernizing the line. Norwegian has really begun to come into its own with a new style based on its “F3” class design. The Norwegian Epic and the Norwegian Breakaway are the first ships to do away with huge dining rooms, and put the focus an having large numbers of more intimate restaurants. It can require some advance planning from cruisers to avoid waits at these venues, but many people believe that the variety in experience is well worth it. These ships are is also the first major ships with cabins built specifically to accommodate solo travelers without single-supplement fees. Norwegian is also knows for it spectacular live brand-name entertainment.

Norwegian is also the only major line to operate an American-flagged ship cruising the Hawaii market, the Pride of America. Because if the ship’s American registry, passengers can sail round-trip from Honolulu without having to visit at least one foreign port during the cruise.

Best for:

Adults and families who want a fun and lively cruise experience where there are few rules or fixed schedules. Solo travelers who don’t want to pay a single supplement.
