AT&T offers a special cruise package for cellular phones

Using your cell phone on a cruise can be expensive. I know my company, Verizon, offers a special onboard cruise package.

Here are the details of what AT&T is offering:

AT&T customers can save money by signing up for the Cruise Ship Passport package prior to or after setting sail on the ship. For a list of qualifying cruise ships, please visit att.com/travelguide.

For just $35 a month, the package provides the following services while on the cruise ship’s “CellularatSEA” network:

• 15 minutes of voice
• 15 messages sent†† (text, picture and video)

Overage rate is $2.49/minute.
††Overage rate is $.50/text message sent and $1.30/picture or video message sent.

*Messages received while on the cruise ship will continue to be charged at your normal domestic rate.

For more information, please visit att.com/worldpackages. To sign up for this package, please login to your AT&T wireless account at att.com/mywireless or call 916-843-4685 (a free call from your wireless phone).

The fine print:

Limited Time Only. Offer can be discontinued at anytime. Cruise Ship Passport will be billed each month to your bill, unless you cancel. To cancel, you can visit att.com/mywireless, or call AT&T customer support at 800-331-0500. Unused minutes and messages are forfeited. AT&T Mobility subscribers only. Credit and other restrictions apply. Availability, quality of coverage and services are not guaranteed. Limit of one plan, per customer account line, per month. Before purchase you should determine if your device will indicate when you are using the wireless network for the cruise ship or another wireless network. If you are near land outside the U.S. Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, you are responsible for checking your network indicator to determine if you are using the CellularatSEA network, or another network, in which case you can incur international pay-per-use charges, unless you have an international plan. ©2010 AT&T Intellectual Property. Hi Cynthia,

Verizon’s website does not list a package for cell use on cruise ships. They do have the per minute rate, which is over the top and seemingly good for emergencies only. Do you have any further information that I haven’t been able to access?

    Thanks,
    Pam

      Hi Pam…

Check it out under the Global Travel Program…international services.

      http://b2b.vzw.com/international/Cruise_Ships/index.html

There is a special package rate that is available on certain cruise ships. It is all pretty well described in there. But you can also call 800-922-0204.

Voice calls are not cheap ($2.49/minute) but texts are only 50 cents to send and 5 cents to receive.
