American Safari Cruises has joined Trusted Adventures, bringing to eight the number of owner-operated active travel companies in the adventure travel consortium. Headquartered at Fishermen’s Terminal in Seattle, Wash., American Safari Cruises operates three luxury expedition yachts with itineraries that include wildlife searches, exploration by Zodiac rafts, kayaking, hiking, snorkeling and, back onboard, fine dining.
The company recently announced the addition of a new brand, InnerSea Discoveries, with a focus on moderately priced, Alaska Inside Passage itineraries that appeal to a more active, youthful market.
American Safari destinations include Alaska’s Inside Passage, the Columbia and Snake rivers, Mexico’s Sea of Cortes, the Pacific Northwest, and, coming in October 2011, the Hawaiian Islands. The company was voted “one of the Top 5 small ship/specialty cruise lines in the world” by Virtuoso. Among its many notable guests have been Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.
American Safari operates three mega-yachts — the 36-guest, 145-foot flagship Safari Explorer; the 22-guest, 120-foot Safari Quest; and the 12-guest, 105-foot Safari Spirit. InnerSea Discoveries is now taking 2011 bookings for the 170-foot, 49-guest Wilderness Discoverer and the 157-foot, 49-guest Wilderness Adventurer. They sail between Ketchikan and Juneau on seven-night itineraries. Typical included activities are hikes of varying length and difficulty, snorkeling, whale-watching, birding, polar bear club swims, glacier viewing, yoga sessions and naturalist-led discussions.
